This is John Paul, a regular city beggar, the ask-and-keep asking-for-money type. He will ask for a few dollars, and when you give him some change you'll get a "Ya' reckon I'd be able to get a few more bucks from ya'? I wanna get a fish curry." It makes me laugh every time I see him ask for change because I was walking through an arcade one time and I saw him asking this Indian looking guy with a turban on for some change, when he got the change John just started haggling with him. "C'mon, can I just have a few more bucks?" A frown formed on the Indian guy's face "Why, why do you want more!?" "I wanna get a Coke." "No no no you can't, just get an orange juice or something cheaper!"

Just think about that little debate for a minute, with the accents and all.

So I've spoken to him a few times, had small chats and given him a little coin on the side just for the hell of it.

I took a photo of him once upon a time, but It didn't come out so well. So recently I was perusing the city streets when there John was, surrounded by a few police officers who looked like they were taking down his details, I snapped the scenario and then waited a little while for the police to leave him be.

I walked past knowing he was going to ask for some change.

I gave him some and asked for a photo, while getting out my camera I asked him why the Police were talking to him.

Without a reply and just a seedy grin out came the catch phrase.

"You wouldn't happen to have a few more bucks would you?"

He's a bit of a character, and by the looks of it, I'm not the only one who thinks so. [link]
